  • Lenny Dickey: I hope this letter finds you in good times. My dad was stationed at RAF Bentwaters/RAF Woodbridge, 1986-90. I attended Woodbridge HS my last two years. • John DiPisa: Thousand Oaks, CA. RAF Bentwaters, late 50's-early 60's. 'Submitted by daughter Maria Di Pisa'. Married a local, my mom! Wait till I tell him about your site, I'll never get him off the computer now. Great job! 8/25/99 May 1958-May 1962. My daugther already has entered my name into your guestbook but I'll give additional info: I was assigned to the 81st Field Maintenance Sq orderly room at RAF Bentwaters. At that time Major Ladd was Commander and J P Mahoney was lst Shirt. Those were some of my wonderful years in my life; I never been given a chance to be assigned back jolly olde England through the years(I guess I didn't know the right people at MPC!). Hell, they could of sent me to RAF Sculthorpe, I would of been happy, as long I was stationed back in England. But I have been going back visiting intermitently through the years (I still have good friends in Ipswich and Felixstowe). I am sorry to see RAF Bentwaters being abandoned; now I read in the Ipswich Evening Star (over the internet) that the runway is being torn up (what a shame). It will probably have the same fate as nearby RAF Station Martlesham Heath (industrial complexes and homes). So I understand, RAF Woodbridge is still (to certain extent) active (at least that is good news); it is used by the RAF & Army. There are still road signs identifying RAF Woodbridge! Well, this is the extent what I have to say. CHEERS! (Yes, I miss the pubs!) Signing off - John DiPisa, 65 years old and still kicking even after 28 years of service in the AF along with seven years of AF civil service. PS, Let me hear from anyone who was stationed with 834th Air Divison, Tan Son Nhut Airport, RVN, from Nov 1966 to Jan 1970. I'm the one who worked in the Airfield Survey Office, Airlift Control Center (ALCC), across the flight line and who used to run, along with my running partners, the "alleys" of Saigon. 2/9/01 I'm still "kicking" here in sunny California. I just came back from two weeks vacation visiting friends in Felixstowe. Went by RAF Bentwaters; on the domestic side, buildings are being demolished and on the flight line side/operational area, with permission of the gate guard I had access traveling along the fence line (looks the same since the time of the reunion). Also, within the flight line is a cafe; there is a sign outside the flight line main gate indicating the opening-closing hours as if visitors are able to visit it and have their "tea." So, apparently, a visitor can have access along the flight line by visiting the cafe. Bentwaters is gone; apparently RAF Woodbridge may be following the same path. 7/21/02

  • Windell Driskell: RAF Woodbridge/RAF Bentwaters, Apr 1971-Jan 1974, Captain of the golf team. Our home course being the Woodbridge golf club. The club restricted the American membership to 50. We would field 6 of our best players and play matches against other bases in the UK. In 1972 we were undefeated. Some of the players on our team were Russell Bruce, John Carr, Rick Shoot(GIB), Pete Caldarelli (Top F-4 pilot in Europe), Ken Vonholland (GIB), Buck McGarrety (F-4 AC) & Phil Wiggins (F-4 AC). Back in those days, the player's who were pilot's, were Vietnam vets. They were good days. 8/07/01

  • Ted Duda: RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge, 1970-73. Spent most my time at RAF Woodbridge, Security Police, later cross trained in X-Ray at RAF Bentwaters. What a great site! Lots of memories of old friends, and even the egg burgers at the rod and gun club! Looking back, those years were the best of my life. And like many of the guys stationed there I also found a lovely young lady from Felixstowe; we married in 1973. It's been so long ago I've forgotten a lot of names. A few I do recall are Bruce Ganos, Father O'Leary, Capt Nakomora, Ed Norton, TSGT Womble, and a few others I only remember the nicknames P.J., Rock, and Woody! Thanks for the site. A lot of fun! 6/29/00

  • Donald R Dunams: Sacramento CA. RAF Bentwaters, 1965-68, Base Post Office. I see my boss TSgt Fred Waller on your website. My recollection of RAF Bentwaters was my first overseas assignment and the place where I met my wife. We got married in 1968 in London, televised by the BBC. This incident caused the USAF to expedite me out of the UK. We went to Colorado Springs and then a year later to Aviano AB, Italy. There I seen a lot of BW/WB troops I knew, on rotation. Presently retired. I still remember those days and every year we have a British/American Reunion Dance here or Las Vegas. 6/22/05

  • Bob Dunn Carpenter, Wyoming. RAF Bentwaters, Jul 1984-Jul 1991, 81 Transportation Sq. I spent 7 years at RAF Bentwaters, driving tractor trailers from RAF Bentwaters to our detachments over in Germany. When I arrived at RAF Bentwaters in 1984, I thought I was back in time because of all the old buildings that were there. When I left in 1991, the base had changed tremendously with all kinds of new buildings. I enjoyed being stationed there and made many friends. I still keep in contact with David Fisk, who lives in Eyke. He was our civilian dispatcher in the section. He keeps me updated as to what has been going on at the old base. Hope to come back and tour "memory" lane. 11/03/07
