  • G Paul Fahnstrom: Tacoma, Washington. RAF Bentwaters, Apr 1976-Apr 1979, 81st TFW, Finance. I worked in Accounting & Finance my whole career. Also stationed at RAF Lakenheath, Aug 1965-Jul 1968 and RAF Upper Heyford, Apr 1979-Jan 1985, where I retired Jan 31, 1985. After retiring, I worked at RAF Greenham Common in Accounting & Finance as a Civil Service Employee. I and my family departed there, and the UK, in Jan 1986. I would like to be contacted by anyone that knew me in the UK. 2/20/01
  • Herb Fair : Indianapolis, Indiana. RAF Bentwaters, 1953-56, 1st Mtr Veh Sq.. Married Eunice Ripper, at Dallinghoo, July 16, 1955. We have two children, nine grandchildren. The oldest just graduated from high school. We lived in Ipswich and Wickem Market, place called Model Farms. Returned to England 1962, at RAF Sculthorpe until it closed. Transfered to Dreux France Detachment 2, 2nd Mobile Comm Group. 5/23/99
  • Larry Faison: Winter Springs, FL 32708. RAF Bentwaters, Nov 1966-Aug 1970, 91st TFS TFS Pilot. I arrived at RAF Bentwaters from an F-4 combat tour in Vietnam. It was great to be flying again without worrying about ground fire! I was for part of the tour the C Flight Commander in the 91st and later a Stan/Eval flight examiner. I remember the deplyments to Libya and the fun on the beach there. I was also a flight test pilot and some of the crew cheifs may remember my name. Highlights of the tour were the airshows I flew for the 50th Anniversary of the Layfayette Escadrille in France and the airshow at RAF Marham. The assignment at RAF Bentwarters was one of my best memories in the 20 years I flew the F-4 and the 31 years in the Air Force. If anyone remembers those times, drop me an e-mail. I would enjoy chatting with you. 6/22/04 I remember my tour at RAF Bentwaters with great fondness even though there were many long days and multiple deployments to Italy, Turkey, Spain and Libya. My time there was before the aircraft shelters were built and we parked the aircraft in "Sherwood Forest" on hardstands in the trees. You could see the big blue 91st hanger from miles away and it seemed like we were operating from a farmer's field. Flying the F-4 was a real thrill and having the opportunity to demonstrate the aircraft performance at the 50th anniversary of the LaFayette Escadrille in France and again at the Imperial Defence College at RAF Marham were special highlights that certainly offset the long hours on Victor alert. Getting out to the villages around the area and in Ipswich are also great memories. 09/18/07

  • Mark Flaherty: RAF Woodbridge, May 1980-Aug 1982, Pneudraulic Specialist and Crew Chief for Wart Hogs ( A-10's), 581st AGS (Blue Streaks). I lived in a small town called Leiston within crawling distance of the Engineer Arms where I had many Pub Mates. On Sundays I used to visit another Airman named Jim O'Connor who lived in Ipswich. We use to hang out at the Blooming Fushia. These were the days of the old Pub hours. When the Pub closed at 2 in the afternoon, Jim and myself would drag half the Pub back to his house where we would treat our Pub Mates to a cook out and Budweiser. When 6 o'clock rolled around, we would all go back to the Fushia. Fond memories, very fond memories. 9/22/00 Mark Flaherty Lost Mountain, GA. RAF Woodbridge, May 1980-Aug 1982, 581ST /Blue Steaks. I lived in the village of Leiston within crawling distance of the Engineer Arms where I had many Pub Mates. My house was the hangout during Pub closure hours. Budweiser & BBQ. I would say the best DCM and of any 0-6 I had the pleasure to work for during my 27 years. The A-10 was a good airplane, but the real crew chiefs were the ones who had to keep the F-4D in the air. I still dream about crewing that plane. When the wind blows and the rain cuts to the quick, It brings back Memories of being on flight line, at 'Cripple Creek'. 9/07/01

I married a security policeman, Daniel J Polzin, and moved to the US in the 1960's. I worked at the RAF Benwaters Airmen's Club as a cashier in the 1950's and early 1960's. I saw many people come through the doors and if someone who knows me from that time, I would like to hear from you. I worked for a wonderful woman who I have now found, Margaret Bullard, who ran the club under Mr Jack Hudson who lived in Woodbridge. When I was working as cashier one night, a young man came up to me and asked where the dressing rooms were. I asked him his name. He said he was Eric Burden, with a new group called "The Animals". They did their new song, The House of The Rising Sun. It became a tremendous hit. These are a few of my many memories from that era. 01/17/06

  • Daniel Fritton: St Cloud, FL, 407.892.2437. RAF Woodbridge, 1976-78, 81st SPS. I am still living on the fine days at RAF Woodbridge. Presently married to Kathleen, stationed in the Middle East, fighting in Iraq for Freedom. 5/26/03 Daniel Fritton: 30 years later I can't get RAF Woodbridge out of my head. What a great plac it was for many of us. I do know that I have to go there to visit. I have a recouring dream that I am trying to find the entrance to the back gate, at the flight line, but keep driving and never find the gate. My time there with the guys and locals was something out of a great movie and it lasted 2 years. What more can a guy ask for. My hat is off to the Brits. 18/02/07
  • Eric Fry: Australia. RAF Woodbridge, 1955-Sep 1957, Arfur Daly". He was a young lad, who had connections with the racing stables. With guile and cunning he managed to get the very latest info on "what was very likely to win.". With this knowledge, he let certain senior officers into the secret. Not surprisingly, Dave was let off certain duties, and parades. His weekend passes were weekly, compared to the rest of us. He also ran a very clever rip off system with the local bookies shop in Felixstowe. Already knowing the genuine winner of a race, he would "manufacture" an envelope to make it appear his bet was placed prior to the race being run. Not only did the young "Arfur Daly", fleece the local bookie, he also managed to take money from the lads around the billet table on card nights. Later a "marked" deck of cards found in his locker explained why. Have you ever heard of a "greyhound" being stopping overnight in a billet? Well Dave brought one in, and it slept on a spare bed. Somehow it must have been related to a "fixed" race at Ipswich. Dave told us in the billet that a certain dog would be a "winner". Along with some others, I placed some money (my first bet). Yes the dog did win, however the stewards ruled it a disqualification. This previous dog "a non entity" had broken the lap record. Ah Felix. I remember you well! 6/07/06

  • MSgt Leonard J Fyhrie (Ret): RAF Bentwaters, Feb 1964-67, ARR shop. The first year, or so, we had the old F-101 VoDoo, but converted to the F-4C in 1965. Remember working on the transfer inspections to send the VoDoos stateside. They all made it back except for one, which crashed in Moran, Spain. I Was in the first FTD APG class for the F-4 in Jul 1965, and went on first TDY to Libya. I worked with Nick Bellizie, Reheinard Bauer, Ken Buffington, Skip Ellington, and one of leaders was SSgt Albert L Bowen. One of my first supervisors was SSgt James Driskoll, who I met years later at Tyndall, FL. One of my best friends was Jack Campbell from Hyd who I think ended up getting married to a girl named Sue who he met at Leiston. I really liked the time I spent in England. After leaving the Air Force for six months, I went back in, spent 4 years at Bitburg, Germany, and I did get a chance to visit again. 8/18/03
