  • Kevin Gadsden: Found you site very intresting. I am a phone engineer, British Telecom, working on the base getting phone cables working again. A large company has brought the site and trying to turn it into a small airport and industrial site. We have taken over blg 40 near main gate to keep our stores in. I used to work on site when I first joined BT in 1989. Sad to see the site as a ghost town with the buildings empty and falling to bits. Some bldgs still have pictures painted on the walls of different aircraft like Phantoms & A10's The domestic site has been sold and plans are to demolish the Bowling Ally and McDonalds for another 500 houses! Old bunglows where commander lived have been sold. If I get a reply to this E-Mail, I will send more information to you. (Thanks Kevin for the update...Jim). 12/17/98

He often talked about TT Eardly, Washington; Charlie Whittmore, Vermont; Paul Kauffman, HH Carlton 3rd. Bobby worked in Flight Sims. Does anyone remember the guy who drove the big pink Caddy? He lived in Ipswich and drove his kids to school on Raeburn Rd, across from my house. His name was Jim? I beleive he worked Photo Lab? I was new to the military and arrived as an airman and left as A1C or SRA. It was some good times, but also about the oddest place I've ever lived. All of the ghost stories (e.g. "East End Charlie" and "Flashlight Freddie" - the latter alledgely frequenting the munitions area (probably a anti-nuke person who didn't get the memo that those things were long gone by my day.))and the UFO talk. 10/19/08
  • Norman L Graff : RAF Bentwaters, 1971-74, 81st SPS on the flight line around all those screamin' Phantoms and on the base at the Airmen's & NCO Club around all those screamin' drunks. There were some cold and boring days out there, but the best friends in the world. Most especially, a hello to Jon, Tom, Dennis, Jesse & Dave. 5/31/99
  • Stephen J. Grah: or E-Mail Dubois, Wyoming. RAF Bentwaters, Nov 1986-Nov 1988, 81st EMS. Looking for fellow 461x0's who worked the bomb-dump at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge, 1986-88 who might remember a skinny, barrack's-rat (lush), motorcycle-nut from New Jersey who never really did anything wrong, but yet never seemed to quite "fit-in" with the enlisted crowd. I'm doing ok these days. Have since gone from scrapin' footpegs to chasin cow's in the high mountains of Wyoming, where at last I have found "peace" of mind, and a place where I can finally be myself. Wondering what any of you out there might be doing with yourselves. 7/11/01 Lived in barracks at Woodbridge. All I had was a little 400cc Yamaha to get me back & forth. Never could really trust the cab drivers to get me to work on time (Darn that black-ice!). But, those two years were the best 'formative' years of my young life. I really miss the place, and especially the riding lessons I took every Sunday morning at 'Poplar Park Equestrian Stables' for 10 pound per hour, until Dave finally managed to tear me away from his wife (head Dressage instructor) and started teaching me the basics of Western 'cowmanship' and let me out on some of the extended trail-rides through the lovely countryside. Funny though, looking back on it, I'll always remember having an 'eerie feeling' about the area located several hundred yards behind the rear (east ?) gate of Raf Woodbridge. It was not until years later, back here in the states, that I'd seen a program about a strange 'happening' back there. Anyways, I'm a full-time 'stockman' now, out here in what little still remains of the 'Wild West'. Virtually all of my time & energies are focused purely on working livestock (cattle) It certainly does'nt pay very well but it makes me feel good to do it. Calving season is upon us once again, so I'm pretty busy, but not too busy to take a look back on where it all began for me. 1/20/03
  • Chris L Gray: Monticello, AR 71657-0513. RAF Bentwaters, 1983-86, 81st Trans. Made Master Sergeant in '84 and didn't do well because of undiagnosed Crohn's Disease with which I have been disabled since '95, shortly after graduating college. Loved living in Framlingham and wish I could have retired there in '89. Wonderful 'Village' and people. Enjoyed working for and with everyone on RAF Bentwaters Industrial side, even Dave the Civilian Dispatcher, ha. All-in-all, more good memories than bad. 1/30/05
  • Jimmy Gray: Laurel, MS. RAF Bentwaters, Sep 1969-Nov 1972. 91st TFS, crew chief on F4C Phantoms. Finding this website brought back many great memories of my years in England. TDY's to Aviano and weekend trips to London quickly come to mind. Some of the older guys I was lucky enough to learn from were: Sgt's Ed McGinty, Jimmy Trial, Pete Gandara, Steven Von Bampus and Robert Nelms. A few of the good men I worked with were: Tom Blickenstaff, Rod Miller, Larry Kaspereen, Jacque Dextradeur(saved my life, literally), Grendale Satterfield, Mike Rowlee, Larry Hamada and many, many others! Would love to hear from anyone who may remember me from such a long time ago! 05/04/07 & 06/13/07

  • Carol & John Gregg: Oceanside, CA RAF Bentwaters, 1962-66, 92nd TFS . Ex-husband, John Gregg, was F-101 pilot then F-4C. Worst winter in 200 years. 101's taxied the runway to clear snow. Spent 2 months at the NCO transition "estate", then moved into a house in Grundisburgh and nearly froze. Heated the 9-room house with coal in the fireplaces and a kerosene space heater brought from the ZI; heated hot water with a coal stove. Having married a farmer, I taught a lot of wives how to build a fire (also thanks to Girls Scouts). Even so, windows were frozen on the inside, pipes froze. God, what an experience! After 1 1/2 years we moved into base housing at RAF Woodbridge (read central heat and a shower!). Many good times. Remember Purple Jesus? All the TDYs to Libya? Good thing we had a strong wives' support group. Lots of dinners at the RAF Woodbridge OC. Son #2 was largest baby ever born at RAF Bentwaters, 2/13/66. Older son was run over by the greengrocer, with minimal injuries. I'd love to get in touch with old friends: Dave and Peggy Moore (78th), Ron and Betsy Allan (91st). So many squadron mates lost in Viet Nam and so many, thankfully, came back. This is a great site. Thank you. 2/3/01

  • Fred W Gregory (Ret): Salisbury, NC 28146. RAF Bentwaters, 1959-62, SSgt in Commercial Trans. Seeing the Quanset (Nissen) Huts sure brought back memories. My wife June and I lived with our two sons in Thorpness for the first 6 months and then resided in Kesgrave for the remainder of our tour. I loved my job and worked for Capt Bumgardner. We met many wonderful people as we were active in Bowling and the NCO Club where I called BINGO with SSgt Bob Fonseca. We held a 30 year reunion with friends we made in England and continue to communicate. Living in and around RAF Bentwaters was just like a "Little America". We made so many English friends as well and cherish the wonderful memories from our tour there. Would love to be in touch with anyone who remembers me. 5/26/03

  • Michael D Grissom: 105-2D Brampton Lane, Cary, NC 275134, 919.469.3292. RAF Sculthorpe, 1956-59. My father, Ted L Grissom 84th during those years. Although I was only 8 years old at the time, I remember that B45 crash like it was yesterday. I only saw Maj DiSalvo a couple of times, before the accident, with my Dad at the officers club. Ive always wondered what caused the crash. My dad was the one who installed those TVs in the Officers Club. You may have known my mom Lynn Grissom. I am son #2 with Teddy, David, Steven and, Bonnie. We lived in a base duplex with Maj Frank Haag, and about one block from Col Reginald Clizbe, Col Glover, & Maj Houpt. I talked with Col Clizbe (ret Maj Gen) a few months back and hes in good health. While there, a teen club was opened on the base. Within the first week or two I met another 8 year old that only told me her name was Blonka or Blonke. I never knew if that was her first or last name but have been trying to find her ever since. I only knew her for 10 minutes before she climbed in the back of a truck with her troop of Brownies (or Girl Scouts). We shipped out to Lockbourne AFB, Columbus, OH shortly after. Mom said that her father was a non-com and could never remember his last name. She also said that Blonkes mom frequented the womens club but thats all she could remember. I remember she had a dark complexion as if one of her parents were from India. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have the yearbook in which that B45 crash was mentioned. (Jane Mansfield was my first kiss! remember that?) 10/24/02

  • Randall Groombridge: Fort Worth, TX. RAF Bentwaters/RAF Woodbridge, JUl 1972-Jul 1974, 81st Security Police Sq, Law Enforcement. My first assignment in the USAF and could not have picked a better base. Remember the fuel crunch of 1973 when the base mixed JP-4 with the gasoline so that our vehicles could stay running & the F4s flew to Germany to top up their tanks. 10/24/05
  • Kenneth Gross: White Plains, NY. RAF Welford, 1982-85, 7551st ASUPS (Ammunition Supply Sq). Those three years in the UK were some of the greatest in my life. Been back a few times since (as a civilian) and know that somehow, someway I'm going to find a way to move there! Lived in Hungerford, Berks, near Newbury. Local was the "Tally Ho", but frequented the "Clocktower" & "White House" in Newbury & the "Blue Boar" in Wantage. Would love to hear from anyone who was stationed at RAF Welford, Greenham Common or anywhere else in the UK. RAF Welford (largest munitions dump in Europe, 2nd largest in world) has now reverted to MOD control and is manned by a skeleton crew. Greenham Common is a virtual ghost town, having been converted into an industrial park, some small businesses, but otherwise falling apart. Such a shame, after all the money that was poured in just a few years earlier w/the GLCM's. Too many memories to list here... Can recommend great B&B's for those contemplating a visit - especially in the Cotswolds. Cheers to all who share my fond memories of duty in the UK. Great site! Thanks 2/4/99
