  • Don Lamoreaux: Amherst OH. RAF Wattisham, 1963 till we closed it 1966, Anglia Control 2161 Comm. Some of the best years of my life were spent at Anglia Control. I had a bike and I used it to peddle all over southern England. RAF Wattisham was choice duty for an airman. There were only about 50 of us who lived on site. We had 3 officers and maybe another 50 enlisted men living off base. Most of the time we were a small happy family. Like parties at the club, Go cart races around the site. They would turn the radar off for the races as the cart engines would mess up the radar in the control room. Christmas beer runs into Bildison and Stomarket, and the many visits to the Major by the local bobby who would ride in on his bicycle after many a hard weekend at the Crown. 7/27/04

  • Steven R LaPlume: Leominster, MA. RAF Bentwaters, 1980-81. I was involved in the UFO incident, though my incident was a few weeks after the big one that hit the press. After I was released I became a Combat Mercenary for about five years and got lost in that whole mess in Central America. I had to give a statment on my involvment in the Iran Contra Affair to the FBI as a matter of fact. What a mess!. I ended up with a few extra holes in my body. Decided being a mercenary had a grim future so I became motorcycle grand prix road racer. Dragged my knee around corners at 140+ mph for a few years until I racked up over twenty broken bones and again decide this sucked also. Now I have a desk job and well, hey what can I say, I am a sloooow learner. If anyone remembers me from RAF Bentwaters or wants to talk about the UFO incident, drop me a line. Tansey, you may know my father. He is Fred Laplume and retired as Chief of Police, Leominster MA. I was born and raised there also. 8/20/99 Southern CA. Hey everyone, I just wanted to update my e-mail address. I am still open to anyone who wants to contact me for whatever reason. Business is good nowadays. But I will get to your e-mail provided I don't get whacked. 10/31/02

  • Rick Lasita: Cincinnati,OH. Moron AB, 1968-70 and was a crew chief helicopter unit, on HH-43's tail number 518 with the 67th ARRS of the ?? Air Rescue Wing, I'll be damned if I can remember the number. and my unit moved to RAF Bentwaters (RAF Woodbridge ?) from Sevilla, Spain in late 1969. (Generalisimo Franco made the units move out the from the main base after the B-52 lost the bomb on a training run. The 67th went looking for the bomb right before I got there.) I found your web site and was wondering if I could be added as I would like to come in contact with those I served with during that period. I stayed behind and worked on 130's prior to the transfer, and lost touch. NOTE: The 67th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron arrived at RAF Woodbridge in December 1969, having transferred from Moron AFB in Spain. The 67th was not strictly part of the United States Air Force in Europe (USAFE) but was directly answerable to the Department of Defense in Washington. The 67th specialised in rescue and night-time operations, including the delivery and retrieval of Special Forces personnel in foreign territory in clandestine operations, and was one of the few units to be equipped with spacecraft-recovery Hercules HC-130 aircraft...Thanks to...Kathy 7/2/00

We just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary this year. Great homepage. Regards, Carty.10/13/98. Virginia. Went back to RAF Sculthorpe last March. Found my old barracks and room no longer used and in a state of disarray. Also went to some of the local towns to see if I could find any of the old pubs. Most have now been torn down or incorporated into hotels, etc. The airfield at Sculthorpe was turned back over to the RAF and I think its only used rarely for training and emergency situations. The Officer/NCO quarters are now a housing estate and the other parts of the base have been sold for industrial/housing development. 4/9/00

  • Phil and Becky (Quimby) Lowmaster: Woodburn, OR. RAF Bentwaters, 1976-78, 81 MMS (Phil), 81 Supply (Becky). Phil and I went over to England separately. He's from PA and I'm from OR. We met on Christmas Eve, 1976, over a cheese ball at Lt Col.Witt's house after a candlelight chapel service. We married Oct 1977 at RAF Woodbridge chapel; celebrated our 25 anniversary in 2003. We lived at 32 Bath Rd, Felixstowe. I (Becky) enjoyed my tour a lot. I made some good friends but only have two in touch with me now. The night I arrived on base was on a bus all of airmen, I was the only air(wo)man but had a good time and met a few good people. One was Alan that was in 81st SPS. He was on duty at the RAF Woodbridge gate the night of our wedding and escorted a friend of Phil's to the chapel. Terry came all the way from PA for our wedding without us knowing! Thanks, Alan. I enjoyed the British people and their biscuits and Cadbury chocolates. Thanks for this site where we can share our memories. So sad that RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge had to be closed but the memories live on. I would like to find Jackie Bremmer, Sgt Willis Little, Mark Demos, P6 Gardner and anybody else that served with me in the supply warehouse. Phil is looking for Sgt Mike Bruha from 81 MMS, RAF Woodbridge. Phil's enlistment was up when we left and followed me to Holloman AFB, NM. I had 1 yr, 8 mo left on my enlistment. I would like to email anybody that was there thru the years we were there. Maybe we can have a Northwest US reunion sometime. Cheers to you! 3/30/03. Just wanted to get an item fixed on my previous entries. Phil and I celebrated our 25 anniversary in Oct 2002, not 2003, my mistake. I have since found Jackie Bremmer which I am so excited about. I actually emailed someone who was also looking for her. Brian actually wound up finding her. What a fun concept, this internet and this web site. 5/09/03 Rebecca (Becky) Lowmaster: Woodburn, OR. RAF Bentwaters, Dec 1976-Dec 1978, 81st Supply Sq, Warehouse. New email address and website.
