  • Ric Tatro: Colorado Springs, CO. RAF Bentwaters, Jun 1978-Sep 1980, 81st MMS & EMS. It's said that you never forget you "first" and RAF Bentwaters aka "Cripple Creek" was my first assignment. How many people can say that the sun actually shone for an entire week when they arrived? Of course it was during the start of a NATO TAC Eval and it was 6 months later before I saw the sun again. I was a 461 BB stacker at the BW bomb dump. Some of the Ammo troops I worked with were: MSgt Ed "OC" O'Conner, SSgt Bob Langjan, Sgt "Fitz" Fitzgerald, Dennis Brown, Eric Block, Jerry Dolan, Clint Hood, Rory Ansel, Jeff Demetri, Carol Buckles, Jerry Santelli, Joe Ledezma, & Scott Swain. I also played on the RAF Bentwaters' base softball team in '79 & '80 with Dan Kelly, Mike Fender & CJ Jones. It would be great to hear from any of them again. I believe Rory is still in CA and Jeff in Neb. I was stationed at 7 different bases during my career but I was never at another base that had the camaraderie we had there. I hope they do set aside room for a museum there. I'd like to go back and see more than the run down remains of the base. 2/23/02

  • Major George H Terry: RAF Woodbridge, Sep 1964-Aug 1965, 78th Ftr Sq, Bushmaster's. My name is Ted Nyman, I feel that I have come to know you since finding your great website. My cousin George flew F-101's. I have in my notes leader of the Beefeaters, whatever that means. He gave me two great pictures of himself, one sitting in the cockpit, and the other standing in front of an F-101. He had so many interesting stories, I wish he had written a book. He spoke fondly of Gen Chappie James, and Gen Robin Old's. I guess he spent some quality time with both men. If I remember correctly Col Olds (at that time) was his CO. He was also one of Chappies pilots (as he put it one of his boys). He flew Sabre's in the Korean war. He also flew with John Glenn when Glenn was with the 51st for a time. During Viet Nam they pulled him out of fighter's and made him a FAC. George retired a bird Colonel. Sadly George passed away from cancer on June 9th 1995. He is buried in Arlington. I miss him something awful. His sister Dorothy and I flew back to Virginia see him shortly before he died. We grew up together from the crib even sharing the same birthday. I was one year older. Just about every Christmas or Thanksgiving we never got through a meal without George spilling his water or milk on me. My question to him in later life was how did you ever become a jet pilot. 8/06/03
