Joseph R Wagner, Jr: Philadelphia, PA. RAF Bentwaters, Sep 1959-Sep 1963, 81st PMS.
Michael W Waite: Ypsilanti, MI. RAF Bentwaters 1958-60, 81st A&E Squadron.
John L & Adele F Wagner: Hawaii. RAF Bentwaters, June 63-Sept 66, when the last combat ready group of fighter pilots in the USAF inventory (about 90 of us stationed in Europe) were sent straight to Vietnam. It seems there was a little bubble in the fighter pilot combat crew training production line and pilots were being rotated out of Vietnam due to number of missions completed faster than replacements were being trained. Hence when we arrived in Sep & Oct, 1966, many squadron's were at half strength. Have participated in 81st FTR WG reunions in Colo Springs, Honolulu and Phoenix. We drove around England last summer and visited RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge. The old tobacco housing is now occupied by locals. 5/1/00

I got an email from a person who thought he knew my Dad from your site. My father would have loved this site he was just learning the computer before he died and would have loved to have gotten the email I got. We lived at Earl Soham in the Forge Cottage in the center of the village, Jun 1970-Jun 1971, base housing at Danforth Dr, Framlingham 1971-73. Loved the busses they used to take us to the base to school. They were the big coaches and a lot more comfortable than the blue tin busses 3/24/01 TSgt L D Walden: Tampa, FL. RAF Bentwaters, Jun 1970-Jun 1973, Security Police Sq. Submitted by daughter Angela Walden . I was in the 8th & 9th grade at Woodbridge JHS. 10th grade at RAF Lakenheath. I was a dormie. My mother is from Liverpool, UK so we got a chance to meet and get to know my English relatives. We had many a great time at the castle. 2/11/01 I got an email from your site from someone who knew my Father. My Father would have been pleased about that. We really enjoyed our time there. We loved living at Earl Soham, Forge Cottage. Then at Danforth Dr, Framlingham. We knew the village inside out. The village fete was great fun. Also being a young girl, the English boys were a lot of fun, but the girls hated us for taking there boyfriends. We even went to the Saturday night dances at the church rec hall. We were young and wanted to have fun. My Mom is from Liverpool so we went there often to see my family. I am still very close with my family in England. Have also been to Lakenheath H S Reunion. Got to meet old classmates that was a lot of fun. Submitted by Angela Walden-Conahey. 1/30/05

George Wilson: 1061 Yuba Street, Aurora, Colorado 80011, Tel: 303 344-0646. (Submitted by Ron Burrell)I was putting up the flag yesterday at the post office in Aurora, Colorado. I met a veteran, and come to find out he is an 81st veteran 1961-64. We were stationed there at the same time! He worked in the munitions squadron and at the 81st Hq for Col Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. I mentioned the reunion being planned next year in the UK and the 81st Ftr Wg Assoc. I plan to visit with George and talk about the good old days at RAF Bentwaters and Woodie bases. George is not online but would like to contact former buddies from his years at RAF Bentwaters. He was also stationed at RAF Sculthorpe 1950's, when they had B-45 Tornados. Perhaps Tony U. can contact him about the RAF Sculthorpe reunions, newsletter, etc. I might add that George is a WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War veteran. He lived in the village of Orford while in UK at RAF Bentwaters. 5/6/00
Jerry Wilson: McMinnville, OR. RAF Bentwaters, Jul 1972-Jul 1976, 81st FMS/ Flt Line Engine Condition. During my stay at cripple creek had a fix-up VW Beetle, gold and then deep puple, stayed in Felixstowe. 05/27/04
Michael S. Wilson: Springdale, AR. RAF Woodbridge, 81st CRS then got "transplanted" to 81st AGS, 519th on RAF Bentwaters, 1983-86. Wow! What a time! I was a specialist on the Flightline, worked ECM (32853), and learned a few other tricks along the way. Got there as an Airman 1 striper, left with a line number for staff. Had a wonderful time with the "Felixstowe Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society" (FADOS). We would gather at the Half-Moon Pub in Felixstowe, and drink ale and eat prawn flavored chips. I remember a cute platimum blond, older than I, named Margaret. One of the yanks I worked with married her daughter. She was married to the chief of the fire department as I remember. The group turned out a few musicals, such as South Pacific, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. All in the name of Anglo-American Relations. Well, I would like to hear from anyone who remembers battered sausages and the fish and chips truck that used to sit by the entrance to RAF Bentwaters. Also the Bag Nasty on the back side of the flightline. Would be interested to hear what ever happened to the DCM Col Young. Also: Herbert "Taco" Wallace, the WCS troop, and Chuck Timbers, my supervisor at that time. Well done. 5/22/00
Stanford L & Veronica Wilson: Mardela Springs, Maryland. RAF Bentwaters, Jan 1963-Sep 1965, 81 Tac Ftr Wg, Supply. Married a girl from Ipswich 36 years ago. We have 2 daughters and one granddaughter. We go back to Ipswich often. 8/30/01
Megan (Hayward) Winans: Started work at RAF Station Bentwaters, 81st Tactical Hospital, 1954 as a VERY young secretary to Lt Col Glenn Hoss (Sp) who was the CO. What a wonderful websight. The desk was in the orderly room and there were some very neat NCOs who took this young lady under their wing and helped me with the language barrier-the slang. I married Robert Winans who came to the 81st Tac Hospital in 1956, then to Stead AFB, NV in 1958. Returned to RAF Bentwaters, 1961-65. Later stationed at Ent AFB, CO, Adair AFS, OR, Kelly AFB, TX, and Lowry AFB, CO. Funny almost all those places are closed-were we that bad? Bob retired in 1973 and we moved to Washington State in 1989. Unfortunately Bob died in 1995. Anybody out there remember the very tall, skinny, shy Brit who was the first secretary at the lovely quonset hut that was the 81st Tactical Hospital. Bob Winans part of the administration for the survival school at Stead, administration part of security police 2nd time at RAF Bentwaters then in Staff Judge Advocate office for the rest of his career. I visit the Bentwaters area frequently and reading about Bentwaters made me find my husband's old book of the 81st Fighter Interceptor Wing from 1954. I still keep in touch with a friend from the hospital who was best man at our wedding. His name is Arthur (Sam) Broeker retired from USAF, Columbus, OH. Another friend from 81st Tac Hospital is George Doty Bellevue, NB, USAF retiree. Thank you again for a wonderful website. Megan's Pic 2/25/99

real soon. RAF Bentwaters, 8 Jun 1980-8 Jun 1982, 81st MMS, 81st AGS. RAF Bentwaters was so much fun that when I came back to England in 1985, I went straight to RAF Alconbury (10CRS ). Was at "Crooked Creek" for the first "Porker 500" and too many practice ORIs. I will always remember the DCM, Colonel Karl G Berroth, the only known person to have successfully captured the Daedalion Maintenence Trophy in three different commands! The 'KGB' once threatened to, "Fire my ass!" which was really tough to take seriously at 5:30 am. I'm now retired in Layton, Utah, and hoping to get back to Tucson and home real soon. Web Page. Anyone wishing to contact me may do so. 11/4/01
